While there are no life and death situations in corporate work, they bring the value and quality to the organization. We draw references to the codes, creed and motto of different military units that explain their attributes to their mode and modus operandi.
“I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.”
- Military ethosNow ultimately that decision rides on the commander, and whoever’s in charge of that element is the one that is going to say — “hey, this was my decision, and this is what we did”. You can’t as a leader, once you make a decision, or once consensus comes in, and then things go wrong, you don’t say, “whoa, you know, that’s what everyone wanted to do”. You don’t do that. You’re the one with the final decision-making power. You can get consensus, you can take suggestions, from other people, but ultimately when you’re the leader, you’re in charge, and you’ll own that decision that you make.
