I hesitated to tell this story for years, and only shared with a few friends to which I don’t understand why they think it is funny. I do see the fear on their faces as I narrated the experience, but they always think absurd misadventures happen to me because I make all the awkward choices.
That was the last time I traveled alone. I was tracking the desert, and the map was wrong, and I ran out of water. There was no google map then. I slipped off a steep slope and was injured. Heavy-armed desert bandits picked me up instead of the rangers. They gave me a `rough hospitality` and helped themselves to the inventories I had with me for the expedition. I was lucky to be acquainted with this guy who guarded a holy ground in a remote region during the route. He was passing by their camp on a donkey and asking them if they needed any groceries from the village. He recognized me and requested them to release me.
I staggered back to a tourist site. I met the rangers and they saw my injuries, and instead of recording my case, One of them pointed to the sign board and said “didn’t you read the sign? It states in 6 languages — ‘tourists go beyond this point at your own risks’”. I was upset and got back to the city. I bought some…
