Existence is Illusive, Existential is Real

As human, we need structure and direction to work with. We are innate haters of uncertainty, and are in constant yearning for assurance and predictability. We want everything to be measured and expressed in absolute units. Yet as human, we understand everything in relativistic sense, every subject or concept we consider has to be reference to something we know, whether in terms of dimensions, physical or chemical properties. Everything has to be compared with something else.

We do know that every matter is of finite composition, and we invented numerics and measurement to contain the definition of matter, but is substance all that defines and signifies existence? What is the distinction that gives our genetic components the vim which differ us from other organic matter? Perhaps, before any scientific methods can help us in cracking that riddle, the first and foremost is not so much the cause of the existence, but the very question on the value of such existence. In other words, what is the value of life? We deduce the reasoning by breaking down the logic atomically, we understand that to first find the value, we have to determine its meaning.

Since the ancient age, philosophers have been asking “why am I here?” or “who am I?”. Not one single thesis ever absolutely satisfies anyone. Such void, including the differing degree or disparate propositions on such dissertation generates factions among many who will not relent in championing their cherished values, in fear that the ego has no stable grounds to harbor a peace of mind. Any question that poses such doubts naturally gets interpreted as challenges towards the article of faith, and the failure to reconcile the misunderstanding sparks off unwarranted, mindless bloodshed, in which there is nothing to gain, except the illusion of egoistic victory. No one gains immortality by being violently bigoted in one’s belief, but the grounds to harvest truth is ultimately destroyed by simian fury, eradicating all grace of sound and complete research, which is the true basis of commonly desired harmony. Hence, it is our duty as a complete and sound human to cultivate the grounds of objective and diligent studies, a basis where truth may be discovered hidden among the whispers of nature. Scientific devotion coupled with philosophical liberation would be the instruments of humanity to harvest truth.

Truth, which serves as an ideal piece of evidence, to as diligently sought after by mortals, will lead us to the centre meaning of human life. It cannot be seen from egoistic perspective; it cannot be sighted by bigoted myopia. Tradition is about virtues, not ritualistic practice. Customs with good intent, but applied in wrong situation can be vice. Question the provenances and consequences of traditions, especially the most deep rooted ones which are left questioned and subliminally, innocuously affecting your volition and strategic decisions within your daily life. With only an immaculate heart and a lucid mind, can the unbiased consciousness soberly put together the puzzles of the meaning of existence — the roots of life.

Life should not be lived in a mode of mindless, reckless tentation. It should be a perspicaciously devised tentamen to achieve and strived towards the state of the art — perfection. There is truth and beauty, and it is the virtues we should pursue passionately.

The meaning of life is the root of life that must be watered and constantly nourished to grow. - 2006-12.04
