The work of prestidigitator that seeks to entertain and educate could earn him the honor of a reformer, however if he connives to plunder and profit, it degrades him to an abject deceiver.
Psychological manipulation and social influence is not necessarily negative if they are used for therapy or to enhance certain human functional performance for a desirable outcome. However, where it is deployed to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded, unfair tactics with the intent to advance only the interests of the manipulator, often at another’s hurtful expense, such methods could be considered unduly coercive, exploitative, abusive, devious, and deceptive.
Mentalist plays on human preference, pride, prejudice, bias, and selective coincidences, but it does not mean they should toy with them. As stated in the section of “The Sociology of Sincere Integrity: Why Integrity Matters As Part of Tao”, we are all within an ecology, and there is a karmic response to every intent vested and contributed by every denizen of the society. The events make up the destiny of humanity.
On the micro-level, we are not spared from our own consequences. There is no religious context in this consideration…
