Mitigating Mental Meltdown

Break-glass For Cycle of Burnout Circuit Breaking

5 min readJun 8, 2025

Safe and controlled relief may be the only known succor to impulsive damage. But when the mind starts to justify harmful coping as a strategy — whether through addiction, denial, or apathy — it’s time to intervene. Before burnout consumes your clarity, before desperation mutates into destruction, there is a window of prevention — small, but life-saving.

The Silent Burnout

It’s Not Always Exhaustion — It’s depletion without replenishment and satiation. What most people today face is not physical deprivation, but a emotional deprivation of contentment, of closure, of a sense that what they do is assuringly enough. This leaves them chasing dopamine hits through overwork, scrolling, bingeing, or worse — substance use.

The Minnesota Starvation Experiment showed how physical and mental deprivation and depletion can traumatize and warped the mind — triggering obsessive thoughts, emotional collapse, and trauma. But emotional burnout and inflammation isn’t just about calories or hours — it’s the emotional starvation that comes from constant draining and output without psychological nourishment. It is chained to nursing the memories of desperation. Fundamentally, mental energy and work budget is limited.
