Caveat: This is not meant as a tutorial for social manipulation or political maneuvering. If you win hearts, you must offer yours. When people know you are just manipulative, not only will you lose their trust, they will lose their hope in people. Do not be a cause to such damage.
Some questions are posed as veil baits, especially when the answer may already be known, to elicit and obtain response not feedback without seeming to. Probe with a situation such as — “Is There a Reason?” to introduce a fact or facet, and the mindset sets into a state.
For example, if you want to know if your persona assistant went out last night when he said he was sick, “I happened to drive by your house on the way home, and I wanted to visit you to ensure you are ok or needed any help. Is there a reason your car wasn’t in the driveway?” Had he been home sick, he would simply tell you that you were wrong — the car was in the driveway. If he is guilty he will look for any way to make his story fit your facts. Don’t accuse outright, gain the assistance of another helper and have this person make the contentious accusation for you. With this, the person will be defensive against the overt disapproval to question the integrity of their actions.
